They are alert people with a freedom-loving spirit. The years 1916 are memorable for the village, when it was burned to the ground and 47 men were shot in just one evening, and 1936, when about 2,000 people were arrested from Srebarna and the surrounding villages and 45 of them were brought to trial for illegal work. participants in the so-called "Silver Process".
Today, Srebarna is known above all for the reserve of the same name "Srebarna", in whose waters you can see the houses perched on the hill. Srebarna owes its world fame to the presence of pelicans. Their colony consists of about 100 pairs. They arrive at the reserve in the month of February and leave at the end of July. The second pride of Srebarna is the large heron colony. White mute swans, shovelers, cormorants, gulls, terns, ducks, geese and others also nest here. Part of the wealth of the reserve are about 40 species of mammals, about 15 species of amphibians and reptiles and about 20 species of fish.
